first time

First day on the water this season. Such an awesome time. It was too cold to fish my favorite parachutes, so I kept a pheasant tail on my line the entire day. Got some much needed feedback on my nymphing technique. I kept telling myself last season that I would spend more time nymphing, but I found it really hard to take off my dry flies. Nothing really beat the sight of a fish coming to the surface, and I hated the feeling of wasting time as I fumbled with my poor nymphing form.

Ended the day feeling great about casting my nymph setup. Need to clean up my loop cast a little bit, but I am much more confident about tying on a nymph now. Picked up a few supplies from the shop and started filling my fly box with some nymphs.

Finally made some progress on a rod bag project with Sana. Just need to pick up the right fabric now. Coming soon..

Pre-season recon

The weather was nice this past weekend, so I thought I might take a peek at the water conditions. Almost completely frozen over, but it was nice to visit my old stomping grounds and cast a few flies for the heck of it.

a quick California break

Visited my parents and brother in Los Angeles. Arrived just as the month-long stretch of raining came to an end. Beautiful weather.

It's been pretty cold in Korea, but I am hoping that the snow will make for a great season of fishing come March. Snow, snow.. just a little more snow for a nice snow pack to last the spring and early summer.

Received an email from Greg at Sierra Nets that my landing net was completed. He just so happened to live around the corner from my mom's house, so I was able to stop by and pick it up at his shop. Loved that Greg was picking up nice scrap wood to reuse on such awesome nets.

I was not sure that the net was going to turn out as nice as I had hoped. The process had taken a little longer than I thought, and I second guessed some of my decisions about the wood and design. Happy to say that it far exceeded my expectations!

Now I just need Sana to weave a nice net for me.

Always nice to see friends in the States. Sad that the list of people I see each time I go back is shorter and shorter.

Back in Korea, the sun is barely visible behind a thick cloud of yellow dust. I don't remember it ever being this bad. Hopefully, the air quality will improve as the weather gets warmer. In the meantime, I picked up some egg patterns for the remaining winter pond season to complement my egg foo yarn hooks.
